SITE CHARACTERIZATION
THE PROCESS OF CHARACTERIZING A GIVEN SITE CAN INVOLVE MANY TYPES OF INVESTIGATIONS. DEPENDING UPON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROJECT, THE LEVEL OF EFFORT INVOLVED IN SITE CHARACTERIZATION CAN RANGE FROM A SINGLE, HIGHLY FOCUSED SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION TO A MULTI-PHASE EVALUATION OF THE GEOLOGICAL AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL CONDITIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SITE AND SURROUNDING AREA. WE OFFER A WIDE VARIETY OF SITE CHARACTERIZATION SERVICES, SEVERAL OF WHICH ARE SUMMARIZED.

Hydrogeologic Investigations

With an increasing demand being placed on drinking water supplies, ground water issues are  becoming ever more important.  Impact to ground water is often the regulatory driver behind most environmental investigations.  While evaluating the ground water quality beneath a site is extremely important, characterizing the physical attributes of the ground water flow system becomes crucial when resolving the “big picture” issues associated with site investigation and cleanup.

Our hydrogeologists are skilled in properly characterizing and evaluating ground water systems to determine: 1) how contaminants migrate and attenuate throughout a given aquifer, 2) what  extent ground water beneath the site may be impacted presently or in the future, and 3) the best options available to mitigate ground water impact and remediate the site to acceptable conditions.

Regarding ground water resource development and/or source water protection issues, it is imperative to fully understand both the local and regional ground water flow system, as well as evaluate the ability of the resource to sustain increasing demand.  By identifying potential, yet realistic, threats to the ground water source/recharge area of a given water supply, appropriate actions can be taken to reduce or eliminate them.
